Jim Brown was an American actor and former professional football player. Jim Brown had two illustrious careers in acting and sports. His initial rise to prominence and wealth came from his career as an NFL fullback. He is regarded as one of the greatest NFL players of all time as well as one of the greatest running backs of all time.
He and the Cleveland Browns won an NFL championship in 1964. With the exception of one season, throughout his nine-year career, Brown led the league in rushing yards. His 5.2 yards per rush average is the second-best in the annals of running backs.
He was admitted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971. Jim had a great acting career after giving up football, landing multiple major roles in the 1970s. On May 18, 2023, Jim Brown passed away at the age of 87.
Who is Jim Brown’s Wife?
Jim Brown had two marriages while he was here on Earth. In September 1959, he wed Sue Brown (née Jones) for the first time. After divorcing in 1972, Brown married Monique as his second wife in 1997. Let’s examine his marriages and wives in more detail.
1. Sue Brown September 1959
In September 1959, Jim Brown wed the former Sue Jones. In 1960, they welcomed twins Kevin and Kim, and in 1962, they welcomed James Jr., another son. After nearly ten years of marriage, Sue filed for divorce in 1968, citing “gross neglect.” Sue received $2,500 in alimony each month in addition to $100 in child support for each of their three children, but it wasn’t official until 1972.
2. Monique Brown, 1997
In 1997, Jim wed the model Monique Brown for the second time, and the two of them welcomed Aris and Morgan into their family. The couple’s marriage wasn’t exactly happy because Jim faced charges in 1999 for allegedly threatening Monique with terrorism. In addition, he was charged with vandalism for allegedly using a shovel to break a window in her Jaguar.
For his crimes, Jim was given community service, counseling on domestic violence, and probation; however, he disregarded the orders and was eventually given a six-month jail sentence. He was freed in 2002 following a three-month prison sentence. That was the final incident of Brown’s trouble during his marriage to Monique.
Monique posted an emotional statement on Instagram following her significant other’s death on May 19, 2023. The statement says, “It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, Jim Brown; he passed peacefully last night at our Los Angeles home. He was an activist, actor, and football star to the world. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather to our family. Our hearts are broken…” A heartwarming photo of the two of them, showing Monique kissing Jim on the forehead, was attached to the post.

Jim Brown’s Playing Career
Brown made the decision to play in the NFL despite having clear talent in a variety of sports. The Cleveland Browns selected him in the 1957 NFL Draft. In a game against the Los Angeles Rams, he ran for 237 yards, which demonstrated his ability right away. With 1,527 yards, he had shattered the single-season record by 1958. Jim scored 17 touchdowns in this MVP season, nine more than his nearest competitor.
Brown made the decision to retire from the Cleveland Browns after nine seasons. He had accomplished an astounding amount during this time. In terms of career rushing yards, touchdowns scored on rushes, total touchdowns, and all-purpose yards, Jim had set records.
In addition, he made history by being the first player to ever accumulate more than 100 rushing touchdowns; since then, very few players have been able to accomplish this feat. This is true even though in recent years the season was extended from 12 to 16 games.
Before ending his athletic career, Brown had a memorable final Pro Bowl performance in which he scored three touchdowns. He retired at the age of 29, which is younger than the majority of players who do so these days. Brown earned a reputation as a very hard player to tackle during his playing days; it typically took multiple defenders to bring him down. An additional noteworthy accomplishment during Jim’s playing career was winning the 1964 NFL championship.
