Karate Kid or Kung Fu Kid? Ralph Macchio comments on the 2010 remake, of The Karate Kid.
Ralph Macchio, 58 who rose to stardom when Karate Kid came out in 1984. He believes that the 2010 remake of his famous movie should have been named ‘The Kung Fu Kid’ keeping with the location change. The new movie also starred Jackie Chan.
Macchio played the role of ‘Daniel LaRusso’ in the 1984 film. His character moves to Los Angeles with his mother and gets bullied by locals. To defend and take a stand for himself, he learns karate, under his master Mr Miyangi.
The 2010 reboot was produced by Will Smith and featured his son, Jaden Smith as the main character, Dre. The story is set in China where he learns Kung Fu to stand up to a local bully, Cheng.
The 58 year old while sharing his experiences said “It’s a rare sporting event I go to when I don’t hear [the Joe Esposito song]. You’re the Best Around.And if I’m in a Japanese restaurant and a fly is in the building, I have about nine seconds to get out”
Macchio stars in the new TV Series, ‘Cobra Kai’ from the Karate Kid franchise. The story is set 34 years on, from the time the tournament was held. It is based around Johnny who is portrayed as an alcoholic. He goes on to open a Karate school and reawakens his rivalry with LaRusso.
The series has started streaming on Netflix since 28th of August. We wish him immense success and good luck!
