Is George Santos Gay? What Is His Sexuality?

Some Democrats are wondering if New York Republican Representative-elect George Santos is gay because it was said that he was married to a woman.

Ritchie Torres, a Democratic Representative from New York who is openly gay, and Ted Lieu, a Democratic Representative from California, both shared an article from The Daily Beast on Thursday. The report said that Santos didn’t talk about his previous marriage to a woman in public.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. George Santos, a far-right Republican, seems to have made up his whole political identity. It looks like he may have also lied about being gay. I could be the only openly gay member of Congress in New York at the start of the New Year. “On Thursday, Torres sent a tweet.

According to court records found by the Daily Beast, Santos seems to have gotten a divorce from a woman whose name is unknown in September 2019.

In October, Santos promised to fight for LGBTQ people. At the time, he told USA Today, “I am openly gay and have never had a problem with my sexual identity in the last ten years. I can tell you and promise you that I will always be an advocate for LGBTQ people.”

Some Democrats doubted that Santos was telling the truth about his political claims and promises when he ran for Congress in November’s midterm elections. This was because of the different stories about his sexuality.

“Tweeted to @Santos4Congress: Did your husband know the following things? You said you worked at Citigroup or Goldman Sachs. Where you are registered to vote, do you live?” Lieu shared the Daily Beast report in a tweet on Thursday. “You went to Baruch College, right? Where do you get your money? Is your name George Santos?”

A report from The New York Times on Monday said that the New York Republican seemed to have lied about some parts of his life and led voters astray.

The Times says that Santos, who had been arrested in Brazil for check fraud, didn’t seem to live at the address where he was registered to vote and lied to his constituents about how much money he had. He also seemed to have lied about what he did in school and where he worked.

The Times also said that Santos, a right-wing candidate who has made false claims about election fraud in 2020 and who went to the Stop the Steal rally held by former President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021, didn’t seem to have graduated from Baruch College or worked for Goldman Sachs or Citigroup.

Representative-elect Robert Garcia, who is also out as gay, tweeted on Wednesday, “Listen, at this point I hope he lied about being gay because we don’t want him.” On Thursday, he shared the Daily Beast article in a tweet comment.

In the meantime, Jewish Insider published an article that used records to show that his claims about being Jewish and coming from people who fled the Holocaust were not true.

Santos didn’t deny any of the information reported by The New York Times. Still, his lawyer, Joseph Murray, said in a statement on Monday that the “Left” is threatened by the election of a gay conservative Latino, according to Insider.

“It’s not surprising that Congressman-elect Santos has enemies at The New York Times who are trying to ruin his reputation with these false claims,” said Murray.

The GOP has asked Santos to be honest about his record because of doubts about his future in Congress under Kevin McCarthy, who backed Santos and could become Speaker.
