Irene Cara, an actress and singer who was best known for her roles in the 1980s hits Fame and Flashdance and for singing the theme songs for those movies, has died.
Irene had just turned 63.

In the tweet, Judith posted a screenshot of a statement from the government. “Irene’s family has requested privacy as they process their grief,” the statement reads. “She was a very talented person whose music and movies will keep her memory alive for all time.”
The statement also says that the cause of Irene’s death is unknown at this time but that the family will share details when “information is available.”
