On September 22, 1972, Dennis was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to parents Kay Allen and Grady Allen. His father, Grady Allen, was a five-season linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons during his professional football career.

Allen became a senior defensive assistant when he signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2015.
