According to NASA’s Data, a small asteroid is heading towards Earth. It might strike our planet before the US presidential elections scheduled for November 3.
CNN reported that the tiny asteroid, “2018VP1” has a 0.41 percent probability of hitting our planet. The asteroid is 0.002km in diameter and will come close to Earth a day before the elections.
Earth has been more prone to asteroid attacks recently, as another asteroid zoomed past our planet last weekend. The scientists have determined the reason behind this, majorly to the position of the planets Jupiter and Saturn.
The asteroid belt lies between Mars and Jupiter and due to the immense size and gravitational pull of Jupiter and Saturn, they act as Earth’s protector and pull these asteroids towards themselves. According to the current reports, both the planets are in the same section of the solar system thereby providing free passage to these asteroids.
“Asteroid 2018VP1 is very small, approx. 6.5 feet, and poses no threat to Earth! It currently has a 0.41% chance of entering our planet’s atmosphere, but if it did, it would disintegrate due to its extremely small size” – NASA Asteroid Watch.
2020 has certainly been an eventful year and this new discovery doesn’t come as a shock to most of us. We are sure this will be prevented as the scientists and army stay prepared.
