Mamiko Tanaka is famous for being married to famous baseball player Shohei Ohtani. But she was also a skilled athlete herself in the past. Tanaka played basketball in Japan for the Fujitsu Red Wave team from 2019 to 2023.
In her final season, she did really well shooting the ball. She made nearly half of her shots and almost seven out of every ten free throws she took. Between 2011 and 2014, she played basketball for Japan in many championships for young players.

Shohei Ohtani is a really good baseball player from Japan. He’s special because he’s great at both pitching and hitting. Right now, he plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Tanaka was born on December 11, 1996. She used to play basketball in Japan. She started at Waseeda University. Then, in 2019, she joined Fujitsu Red Wave. They play in the Women’s Japan Basketball League. Tanaka, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall, played for four years.
But in 2023, she stopped playing. In 2023, during her final season, Tanaka made 47.7% of her shots from the field and 69.9% of her shots from the free throw line in 28 games. Ohtani said he got married on Instagram in February 2024. He wrote in English but also left a message in Japanese for his fans.

Only fourteen days after telling everyone he got married, Ohtani stood for a picture with Tanaka and their language helpers as they got on a plane to Seoul, South Korea. They were going there for a game of the Dodgers.
The group shared a picture of them on X (previously called Twitter) along with another picture of Ohtani’s teammate Mookie Betts and his wife Brianna Hammonds.

They wrote “Wheels up to Seoul” on the post and tagged Tanaka as Ohtani’s spouse in the photo description. Ohtani also shared a picture of himself with Dodger teammate Yoshinobu Yamamoto and a few team translators on his Instagram Story.

He said, ‘Can’t wait!!’ with a picture and a flag emoji from South Korea. When Ohtani and the Dodgers arrived in Seoul for their first game against the San Diego Padres, Tanaka and Ohtani were welcomed by a lot of fans.
They walked from the plane to their limousine together. Ohtani wore a black training suit and cap, while Tanaka wore all black clothes. Ohtani quickly said hi to his fans, and Tanaka smiled while walking a bit behind him.
