Gavin Rossdale Career
His initial endeavors with a group named Midnight yielded a few singles. Midnight had minimal success even though they toured the UK and Ireland and were able to open for acts like Big Country and Cyndi Lauper. In addition, Rossdale joined The Little Dukes, a short-lived band that disbanded in 1991. Rossdale relocated to Los Angeles to further his musical career following the dissolution of The Little Dukes.
After that, Rossdale traveled to New York and England before founding the grunge Bush in 1992. Rossdale, who was the band’s lead guitarist until November of that year, had been the rhythm and vocalist for Future Primitive. The group released “Sixteen Stone,” their debut album, in 1994.
The album was a tremendous commercial success. The albums “Razorblade Suitcase,” “Deconstructed,” “The Science of Things,” and “Golden State” were among the ones that followed, all of which had strong record sales and elevated Bush to the status of one of the top-selling rock bands of the 1990s.
Although Bush became a household name in the US, the band’s influence was less in Rossdale’s home UK, where the Britpop movement was gaining traction at the time and bands like Oasis, Blur, and Pulp were competing for attention on the other side of the Atlantic. Bush’s single “Swallowed,” which peaked at No. 7 on the UK charts, was the exception to this rule.
The band broke up in 2002 after things didn’t work out with new management and record labels. On September 13, 2011, they released a new album, “A Sea of Memories,” after getting back together in June 2010. Following that, they put out three more albums: “Man on the Run” in 2014; “Black and White Rainbows” in 2017; and “The Kingdom” in 2020.
