Joe Cada Poker Starting
Cada began playing online poker when he was around 16 years old. He tried his luck with two different accounts, both of which he shared with his brother Jerome, but unfortunately, they lost all the money in those accounts. His first online poker experience was with PartyPoker.
Even though he couldn’t legally play in casinos in the United States until he turned 21, he could play in Canada when he was 19 and continue playing poker online. After a break from the game following their losses, he started playing at a casino in Windsor, Ontario, just across the border from his home in Detroit.
Cada earned enough money to participate in poker contests in the Bahamas and Costa Rica. At the time he won the WSOP, he was playing around 2,000 hands per day online at PokerStars using the username jcada99.
By the time he became a world champion, Cada had been a professional poker player for six years. Between the end of 2008 and the 2009 November Nine, he had earned $551,788 playing poker online.
Before the tournament, he had a rough patch, losing $150,000, which led him to seek financial backing for the WSOP. Professional poker financiers Eric Haber and Cliff Josephy paid his entry fee in exchange for a share of his winnings.
Cada enjoys participating in the “Sunday Major” tournaments on various online poker sites. He improved his skills by learning from better players on online training sites. On Sundays, he often has around fifteen poker-playing friends over at his house to keep each other company during the long hours of playing these tournaments.
Additionally, Cada used different usernames to play on various online poker platforms, such as jcada99 and Joe Cada on Full Tilt Poker, jcada99 on PokerStars, and JCADA99 on Absolute Poker.

Joe Cada Family and Personal Life
Joe Cada’s mother, Ann Cada, used to work as a blackjack card dealer at MotorCity Casino. Joe has an older brother named Jerome, two older sisters named Theresa and Jillian, and a younger half-sister named Alex. His father, Jerry, faced difficulties during the late-2000s recession when he lost his job in the automobile industry due to layoffs.
When Joe reached the final table of the 2009 World Series of Poker, many of his fans showed their support by wearing T-shirts in the Michigan Wolverines’ team colors (maize and blue). These shirts had “PokerStars Michigan Joe Cada ‘The Kid'” printed on them, and they also wore Michigan baseball caps with “The Kid” on the back. Joe’s agent gave him the nickname “The Kid.”
In an interview with Time magazine, Joe mentioned that he had around 100 friends cheering for him in the audience.
During the same Time interview, Joe shared his views on the legality of online poker, stating that he supports the right to play poker online. He believes that poker is more than just gambling; it’s a hobby, an activity, and a game that involves logic, decision-making, and math.
He thinks that everyone should have the freedom to play poker on the internet, and making it illegal takes away our rights. Joe is not just a poker player; he also enjoys playing indoor soccer. In 2009, he was even thinking about buying a second home in Las Vegas, Nevada, and possibly opening a bar.
