Netflix has confirmed that there will be an Alice in Borderland Season 3, which is great news, especially after what happened in the Season 2 finale. In the last episode, Arisu and his friends thought they were safe, but then the game’s master drew a tricky card, the Joker.
To be honest, many of us expected this to happen. When the face card arrived, it was pretty clear that the Joker would show up.
Now, what’s next for the exhausted gamers who thought they had escaped the dangerous game world? Let’s find out what we know about Alice in Borderland Season 3.
Alice in Borderland Season 3
The streaming service may be still waiting to decide what comes next for the series, especially since Season 2 has already covered the original Alice in Borderland manga’s story. If Netflix decides to make a third season, they could explore Arisu and Usagi’s story further and have creative freedom for what happens next.
Additionally, according to Hypebeast, Alice in Borderland is the most-watched Japanese series on Netflix ever. With this impressive achievement, Season 3 might likely happen.
In September 2023, fans found some hints on social media suggesting that Season 3 might already be in the works. There was a poster at Shibuya Station in Tokyo, Japan, with the Netflix logo and playing cards, but we can’t be sure if Netflix officially released it.
Fast forward to the end of September 2023, and Netflix made it official – Alice in Borderland will have a Season 3. They even released a short video featuring a Joker card alongside the announcement.

Season 1 came out in 2020, and Season 2 was released in 2022. Netflix has only recently given the go-ahead for Season 3 in late 2023, so we might have to wait until 2024 to watch it.

Season 3 of Alice in Borderland: What’s Next?
Well, let’s recap what happened in the story. All the main characters managed to escape from the game world (sorry if that’s a spoiler). They woke up, although many of them couldn’t remember what happened. It turns out that the game world was like a kind of in-between place, sort of like purgatory. This was because they were all almost killed by a huge meteor strike and were right on the edge of life and death.
Arisu and Usagi, even though they couldn’t remember everything, became close and went for a walk together after waking up in the hospital. The very last scene of Season 2 shows a table with playing cards, and the Joker card, which was never used in the games, is right there.
Now, even though the characters have made it back to the real world, Season 3 might introduce a whole new group of characters who have to go through a similar journey. Or, there might be more to the story with the original characters.
In the original manga, the story follows the characters from when they first enter the Borderlands to their escape. But two spin-off mangas continue the story as they return to the world for different reasons. The catch is, that they don’t remember their previous adventures, so they essentially start fresh each time.
