This is a story that was in the news across the country and even turned into TV shows. It’s about a young woman who convinced her online boyfriend to come to Missouri and kill her mother because she had been mistreated for many years.
Now, that young woman, Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who is 32 years old, will be released from prison. She was in prison for her part in her mother, Clauddinnea “Dee Dee” Blanchard’s, death at their home near Springfield in 2015.
Dee Dee made Gypsy pretend to be disabled and lied about her health for years. She made Gypsy go through medical treatments and tests that she didn’t need. Dee Dee also told people that Gypsy was younger than she really was to get sympathy and donations.
Gypsy met a man named Nicholas Godejohn online around 2012, and they started a relationship. After many conversations, Gypsy convinced him to come from Wisconsin to Springfield and kill her mother.
Dee Dee was found stabbed many times in her bed in June 2015. People in the neighborhood thought Gypsy was disabled, so authorities asked for help finding her.
A few days later, they found Gypsy and Godejohn in Wisconsin, and they were brought back to Missouri to face charges of murder and other crimes.
Who is Gypsy Rose?
Gypsy got her name from a famous entertainer named Gypsy Rose Lee. She was born on July 27, 1991. When Gypsy was just 3 months old, her mom, Dee Dee, thought she had trouble sleeping and took her to the hospital. The doctors found nothing wrong, but this was the start of Dee Dee’s obsession with Gypsy’s health.
Dee Dee told people that Gypsy had a chromosomal disorder, which she didn’t actually have, and said she had epilepsy and had seizures. Gypsy even mentioned on Dr. Phil that her mom gave her a walker when she was young and said it was because she had muscular dystrophy.

When Gypsy was 7, she had a small motorcycle accident with her grandfather that only left her with a scraped knee. But her mom told everyone that Gypsy was paralyzed and needed a wheelchair.
“The prison that I was living in before, with my mom, it’s, like, I couldn’t walk,” Gypsy told ABC News. “I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t have friends. I couldn’t go outside, you know, and play with friends or anything.”
If you showed curiosity about the world beyond, there were negative outcomes.
“It would go into an argument that would last a couple days, or it could be something where she wouldn’t feed me for two days, or so,” Gypsy told ABC News. “It started to be physical in 2011. She would hit me with a coat hanger sometimes.”
Gypsy was scared to defend herself, but she did try to escape once. After that, Dee Dee locked her to the bed and put bells on the doors so she couldn’t leave.
Gypsy Rose Release Date
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was in prison for being part of her mother’s murder, has been granted parole. She’s going to be released in December, as per the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Back in July 2016, Gypsy, who is now 32 years old, admitted to being involved in her mother’s murder, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. She got a 10-year prison sentence.
Gypsy is going to be set free on December 28, 2023. By then, she will have spent 85% of her 10-year sentence behind bars. Before going to prison, she was in the Greene County Jail, and the time she spent there counts towards her overall sentence.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard will be a free woman on December 28th, 2023. She is being released from the Missouri Department of Corrections three years earlier than her original release date. Who was Dee Dee Blanchard?
When Rod Blanchard was 17, he married his girlfriend Dee Dee, who was 24 and pregnant. But they separated before their daughter Gypsy was born in Golden Meadow, Louisiana. Rod had a hard time seeing his daughter because Dee Dee said Gypsy had significant health issues, according to what his ex-wife told him.
Episode 41: Gypsy Rose and the Murder of Dee Dee Blanchard. Before June 2015, Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose were the sweetest mother/daughter pair. Gypsy had a slew of illnesses, and Dee Dee devoted her life to taking care of her daughter… or so everyone thought. Out now! pic.twitter.com/EgIA0konFK

“After that first time I saw her in the wheelchair [when she was 7], I never seen her walk again,” Rod said of his daughter in the 2018 Investigation Discovery documentary Gypsy’s Revenge. “But through all the illnesses, she’s always been a trooper.”
Dee Dee prevented him and Gypsy from getting too close, Rod recalled, and he regretfully never asked “really hard questions,” worried his ex would cut off contact completely. And when he did see Gypsy, Rod told ABC News, “Dee Dee had to be there the whole time. Something never felt right about it. Dee Dee was so controlling.”
After Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana’s Gulf Coast in 2005, Gypsy and her mom moved to Springfield, Mo. When they went to see the doctors in their new town, Gypsy’s mom, Dee Dee, told them that all of Gypsy’s medical records had been lost in the hurricane. Dee Dee also told Gypsy not to talk during those doctor visits.
“She had a very persuasive persona on the outside,” she said of her mother in Gypsy’s Revenge. “You would almost think that she’s just the kindest, sweetest, most genuine woman. If she found the doctor didn’t agree with what she wanted, she would switch to a different doctor that she would find. I’ve probably seen over 100 doctors in my life.”
Dee Dee claimed to be the only one taking care of her disabled child, which allowed her to get help from social services. They received many gifts from charities, people in their community, and kind strangers who heard about them on the news. They even got a pink house from Habitat for Humanity, which would later become famous.

What Happened to Dee Dee Blanchard?
On June 14, 2015, a message appeared on Gypsy and Dee Dee’s Facebook page saying, “That Bitch is dead!” This message got people talking in the comments, trying to figure out what it meant. Later, another message showed up, but I need more context to simplify it.
“I f–ken SLASHED THAT FAT PIG AND RAPED HER SWEET INNOCENT DAUGHTER…HER SCREAM WAS SOOOO F-KEN LOUD LOL.”
Two friends, Kim and David Blanchard (who aren’t related), visited Dee Dee and Gypsy’s house. They tried to contact them but got no response from phone calls or the front door. So, David looked inside through a window in the kitchen and saw three wheelchairs. They thought Gypsy always needed a wheelchair.
Kim called 911, and the police, after getting permission to search the house, found Dee Dee dead in her bed the next morning. They figured out that she had been dead for several days.
At the same time, people who lived nearby were surprised and sad when they talked to the Springfield News-Leader newspaper. One man even mentioned Dee Dee as “the nicest lady in the world” and said she used to invite the whole neighborhood over for movie nights in their backyard. At the time, Kim Blanchard told the publications that Dee Dee being killed “was the worst heartbreak that you can think of.”
On the other hand, a woman was arrested for a shooting outside Prattville Walmart in a domestic situation. The police are still looking into it, and we’ll let you know more when we have more details on this news.
