Drew Barrymore says she is back on the market after getting divorced from Will Kopelman six years ago.
In the past, the talk show host said that her divorce hit her “really hard” and that she didn’t feel ready to love again. But on Thursday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show Barrymore told Whoopi Goldberg that she’s getting back into dating after realizing she’s gotten too used to being by herself.
“When you were here the last time, we were both single. You weren’t dating. Do you have a date now? ” she asked the actor before admitting that she had started going on dates again. She also said, “Because it had been so long, I started to worry that I was too good at being alone.”
The co-host of The View said that she is still not looking for a serious relationship, but she did give Barrymore some good advice about her own love life. “Maybe a hit-and-run is better for now until you think to yourself, ‘Now I really want someone to just be a part of this,'” Goldberg said. “That might not be what you want right now, which is probably why you’re doing well.”
Barrymore and her husband of four years with whom she has two daughters, Olive and Frankie decided to get divorced in 2016. In a blog post from October the star of Never Been Kissed said that since then, she has “not been able to have an intimate relationship.” She went on to say, “I have had the honor and pleasure to actually work on myself and learn what parenting is again, something I wasn’t exactly clear on growing up and I’ve had many learning curves thrown my way.” I’ve been intimidated.
I’ve been triumphant. I’ve been asked to learn everything I can. Barrymore added, “I’m just in a completely different place in my life and maybe in the near future I will get into a relationship but it just hasn’t been my top priority.” So I’m not someone who needs s*x and has to go out and talk to people on that level to get it. I am someone who cares a lot about how young girls, my daughters, and women like me are supposed to act in this world. ”
The former actress was also married from 1994 to 1995 to producer Jeremy Thomas and from 2001 to 2002 to comedian Tom Green. Barrymore told her guest Jane Fonda in September 2020 that she had tried a couple of dating apps since her divorce but that she had “sworn off men” for the last five years. Fonda replied that just because the talk show host said she was done with men didn’t mean she couldn’t “fit in a little affair or two.”
