Is this the year for the Waverider’s final voyage? Is The CW planning to air season 8 of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow? This page is where you can keep tabs on the cancellation and renewal status of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Season 8.
About the Show
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is a superhero comedy/drama series starring Caity Lotz, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, Matt Ryan, Adam Tsekhman, Olivia Swann, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez, and Amy Pemberton. In this story, a band of misfit heroes and villains travel through time and space in the stolen Waverider. Sara Lance (Lotz) and Ava Sharpe (Macallan), co-captains of Legends, believe they can finally relax after rescuing Earth in 1925 from an alien invasion (and getting married) in season seven. The Legends’ times are destroyed when they encounter a second Waverider, thereby trapping them in 1925.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’s seventh season averaged a 0.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 528,000 viewers each episode, making it the lowest rated season of the show to date. That’s an 11% increase in the demo and a 27% increase in viewers from season six to season seven in the live+same-day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). When compared to the other scripted shows on The CW this season, it performed about as well as expected. Live+7 ratings for Legends were 0.18 in the demo and 854,000 total viewers, an increase of 98% and 62%, respectively, from the previous week’s numbers.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 8 — CANCELED
The crew of the Waverider may now rest easy; their adventures are over. As a result of the CW’s cancellation, there will not be season 8 of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. The seventh season concluded early in the month just gone.
At the same time that the cancellation was announced, Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global announced that they were trying to sell the network. There has been talking that The CW will not renew as many shows as it has in the past. Cancellations of other shows are expected after today’s cancellation of Batwoman.
Co-showrunner Keto Shimizu broke the news of the Legends cancellation on Twitter, and many of the show’s actors and staff members reacted to the news in the comments.
Thank you to our fans; your love and passion for our strange band of misfits has made every break, every script, every daily, every cut, and every mix worth all the hard work. We see you, we love you, and you’ll always have a place on the Waverider. ❤️

How The Cast Reacted To Legends Of Tomorrow’s Cancelation?
There has been some feedback from the cast of Legends of Tomorrow regarding the canceled season 8. Caity Lotz who plays Legends leader Sara Lance, a.k.a. White Canary, shared on an Instagram story “I am bummed! I am sad, I’m going to miss it so much,” (via TVLine). Since the first episode of Legends of Tomorrow aired in 2016, Lotz played Sara Lance.
For her and other cast members like Amy Louise Pemberton, Matt Ryan, Tom Forbes, and the rest of the Legends regulars, it’s the end of an era. “Working on Legends has been amazing.” Lotz went on to say in her Instagram story. “It’s been such a journey and I am so endlessly grateful for it, and for you guys. So, thank you. To all the Legends of Tomorrow fans out there we love you guys so much. And it has been a blast.”
When the cast members found out the news, several of them turned to social media to share photographs and anecdotes from behind the scenes.
Nick Zano, whose character Nick Heywood/Steel will be killed off at the end of Season 7, said a heartfelt farewell to his fans in an Instagram post, calling his time on the show “the absolute most incredible, gratifying experience.” It appears that the talented actors and actresses of Legends of Tomorrow felt the same way about their work as the show’s devoted audience did.
Although it’s possible that the heroic Legends will have a future if the CW finds a new home on HBO Max, that day is not yet come. Each and every member of the cast and crew of Legends of Tomorrow held the show in the highest regard. Sadly, the cancellation of season 8 occurred despite the debut of Booster Gold and a season 7 ending that left many concerns unsolved.
