Yellowstone on the Paramount Network has demonstrated that people still enjoy a good western. With the upcoming Yellowstone season 5, they’ll get even more of it. The Taylor Sheridan neo-western is a far cry from the genre made famous by John Wayne on the big screen, but Yellowstone’s cowboys have become one of television’s biggest draws.
Yellowstone season 4 episodes “Phantom Pain” and “Under a Blanket of Red” were the only cable network shows to make the top 100 most-watched US TV shows of the year in 2021. The season 4 finale drew 10.3 million viewers, according to reports.
Yellowstone’s popularity has also aided the success of a few other shows, most notably the Yellowstone prequel series 1883, which is available exclusively on Paramount Plus. Yellowstone is also planning two more spinoffs: 6666, a direct spinoff of Yellowstone, and 1923, which, like 1883, is a prequel series that follows previous generations of the Dutton family.
However, Yellowstone remains the main attraction, and fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the Dutton family after Yellowstone season 5 was officially greenlit. Everything we know about Yellowstone Season 5 is listed below.

Yellowstone Season 4 Recap
The season begins with John Dutton waking up from a coma in the hospital after being attacked along with Beth, Kayce, and John. The rest of the family is still alive, but they are fighting in different ways. Beth fights to protect the ranch from a company that wants to build an airport on it, Kayce fights to help his family overcome trauma, and John puts aside differences with an adversary for the sake of a common goal.
Beth keeps her enemies close by working for Market Equity, the company attempting to buy their ranch. Caroline Wagner eventually discovers her, but not before she disrupts some of Market Equity’s plans. She even uses an environmentalist who fell in love with her father to stage a national-level protest on Market Equity’s construction site.
John Dutton keeps the peace with Thomas Rainwater while they work together to find out who ordered the Dutton family’s assassination attempt. When they learn that the attempt was organized by an inmate, John instructs Kayce to send Jamie to find out more about the inmate. Jamie tracks down the inmate and learns that one of the inmate’s former cellmates, Garret Randle, is his biological father.
Meanwhile, Kayce takes part in a Native American ritual, which gives him a powerful vision in which he claims to see the end of everything.
Yellowstone Season 5 Plot?
In response to a question about Season 5, Hauser revealed, “We come together as actors, and I believe I can speak for everyone. We are entering our fifth year.” He mentions Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley, and Gil Birmingham in particular. We now know who will be joining Yellowstone’s core cast, thanks to Deadline. John Lucas will reprise his role as Young John Dutton, and Kylie Rogers will reprise her role as Young Beth Dutton. Kyle Red Silverstein will reprise his role as Young Rip Wheeler for good measure.
Anyone concerned about Teeter (Jen Landon) and Emily (Kathryn Kelly) can rest easy knowing that both actresses have been promoted to series regulars for the upcoming episodes. Wendy Moniz and Mo Bring Plenty were also given a series of regular roles for their roles as Mo and Governor Lynelle Perry, respectively.
We’ll also apparently see some new faces around the ranch. Kai Caster, Lilli Kay, and Dawn Olivieri will all play new characters in Yellowstone. According to Deadline, Olivieri’s character is “a confident, corporate shark and a newcomer to Montana.” Sounds like Beth’s ideal sparring partner. Lainey Wilson, a country artist, will also appear in the series in a new role, the artist has confirmed. “I wanted to share some news with you,” Wilson said at the Under the Big Sky Festival in Montana. “I’m looking forward to the next season of Yellowstone.” I’m going to be Abby, a musician on the show, and I’ll be able to share my music with a large portion of the world who watches the show.”
While there were no major cliffhangers at the end of Season Four, there are some major dynamic shifts within the Dutton family, most notably Jamie’s transformation into a murderer and Beth’s knowledge of the information that could ruin him. But, as we know from the Duttons, nothing lasts forever. Simply ask Piper Perabo.
