Has Shadow and Bone been renewed for season 2?
Official renewal status: Renewed
As long as there’s a lot of material to work with, Netflix’s Geeked Week is a good time to find out if the show is going to be renewed. They’re going to make a lot of new announcements.
The renewal came with a video of the cast talking about the renewal. (The video was leaked the day before the announcement – whoops!).
On the renewal, Shawn Levy (who served as an executive producer on the show) said:
“My 21 Laps colleagues and I are thrilled that audiences around the world can continue to explore the Grishaverse and revel in the epic, unique storytelling of Shadow and Bone. The fun of our jobs as producers is the collaboration with creative partners who inspire us. Leigh Bardugo and Eric Heisserer are two such partners; together they have created a world and pantheon of characters that fans all over the globe have embraced. We can’t wait to take viewers on the wild ride that comes next…”
As a side note, we’ve also heard that there could be a spin-off show about the Crows, who played a big role in season 1.
How well did Shadow and Bone perform on Netflix?
55 million Netflix members watched the show in the first 28 days. This places the show eighth on the list of the most-watched English TV shows of all time (according to released Netflix Statistics).
This corresponds to the collected top ten data as well. It is currently ranked eighth in terms of global points gathered, trailing Vincenzo but ahead of Snowpiercer, with a respectable 16,342 points gathered. It was also the 14th most popular first-day debut on Netflix since March 2020.

What to expect from Shadow and Bone season 2?
The Siege and Storm, Six of Crows, and King of Scars storylines are set to dominate Season 2. That is based on the return of those cast members, the addition of new cast members, and what was established in the season 1 finale.
Following Alina and Mal’s departure for the Dregs in the first season’s end, the second season will continue their journey to new places in order to keep Alina out of Kirigan’s grasp. That indicates they’ll run across Nikolai at some point, but we’ll get to him soon enough.
Kirigan has used his Darkling talents to construct new Folding creatures called as Nichevo’ya, as seen in the season 1 finale. Unlike the Volcra who live in the Fold, these monsters can move in broad daylight. They’ll be tough opponents for Alina and Mal to overcome.
Ben Barnes, who plays Kirigan/the Darkling on Netflix’s show, has expressed interest in seeing season 2 “stray” from the story in the books, much like season 1 did when the Dregs were added to Alina’s voyage. Season 2 may or may not do so, but it would be an interesting departure from the source material. It would give existing fans more material to enjoy, but some may object if the show deviates from the literature.
