(KTRK) — HOUSTON, Texas Last month, Migos rapper Takeoff died at a Houston bowling alley. On the night he died a 22-year-old man is being charged with having weapons. No one has been charged with killing Takeoff, but Cameron Joshua has been charged with two counts of being a convicted criminal with a gun.
The video you see above is from an old news story. On Wednesday morning, Joshua went to court. During the hearing, it came out that surveillance video and a tip from a person who didn’t want to be identified that Joshua had a gun helped police link the man to the Takeoff shooting scene.
Prosecutor Matt Gilliam said, “We think Cameron Joshua’s charges are fair in this case.” “We’re still looking into what happened to Takeoff.”
Christopher Downey, Joshua’s lawyer, said he thinks Joshua’s charges would have been different if the DA thought Joshua was involved in the shooting.
Cameron Joshua’s lawyer said, “I haven’t seen anything that shows Cameron Joshua had anything to do with the shooting, that he fired a gun that killed the man, or was even involved in it.”
Downey said that Joshua’s bond hearing was moved to next week because he was already out on bond for having a fake ID. A judge will determine if the bond should be revoked altogether.
Joshua didn’t have a new mugshot, but he did have an old one from the Department of Public Safety. The man has been charged with several crimes in Harris County before, such as breaking into a car and changing government records.
Records show that he is also wanted for escaping justice in another state. At about 2:30 a.m. on November 1, police were called to the 810 Billiard and Bowling alley at 1210 San Jacinto Street in downtown Houston because someone had been shot.
When police arrived, they found a man who had been shot and killed on the third floor, just outside the alley’s front door. Police said that the man was Kirshnick Khari Ball, also known as Takeoff.
Takeoff, Quavo, and Offset were all in the group Migos.
Employees at the scene told HPD officers that after a party ended, a large group of people gathered near the front door. At that meeting, someone started arguing, which led to the fatal shooting.
A police spokesperson said that security guards in the area heard the shooting but did not see who did it. A 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were also shot and went to the hospital on their own.
Takeoff was the youngest member of the rap group Migos, which also included his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset. The group was from a suburb of Atlanta. In 2013, when “Versace” became a huge hit, that was their big break. Drake did a remix the song, which made it even more popular.
The group had four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, but Takeoff wasn’t on their multi-week No. 1 song “Bad and Boujee,” which featured Lil Uzi Vert. They released three albums called “Culture,” “Culture II,” and “Culture III.” The first two of these albums went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 album chart. They also won an ASCAP Vanguard Award in 2018 for songs like “Motorsport (with Cardi B and Nicki Minaj),” “Stir Fry” and “Walk It Talk It,” which have been streamed millions of times.
