Jerry Lawson died in Phoenix on Wednesday. For 40 years, he was the lead singer of the Persuasions, a group that brought back a cappella singing and won fans all over the world. He was 75.
Jerry Lawson Cause Of Death
His wife, Julie, said that he had died. She said that Mr. Lawson’s immune system was weak because he had Guillain-Barre syndrome, which is a rare neurological disorder. The Persuasions, led by Mr. Lawson’s smooth, warm baritone, sang R&B, rock, blues, gospel, and pop without any instruments.
They did this long after the doo-wop era, which their sound reminded people of, and before the “Pitch Perfect” movies brought new attention to singing without instruments. “It’s been 38 years, man, and we still don’t have a band!”
