Tim Curry is an English actor, singer, and voice actor. On April 19, 1946, he was born in Grappenhall, Cheshire, England. Curry’s mother worked as a school secretary, while his father served as a Methodist chaplain in the Royal Navy. He fell in love with performing and singing while attending a boarding school in Bath.
Tim Curry made his big screen debut in the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” (1975) as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. In the 1973 and 1974 film adaptations of “The Three Musketeers” and its follow-up, “The Four Musketeers,” he also portrayed the evil Cardinal Richelieu.
Tim Curry had a lengthy and fruitful career in television and movies. Theater Career
After earning his undergraduate degree in 1968, Curry started his lengthy and brilliant career on stage. Within the original London cast of the musical “Hair,” he secured his first full-time position that same year. Curry met Richard O’Brien while working on the project. O’Brien would later write Curry’s next major character, Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the musical “The Rocky Horror Show.” When the show debuted in 1973, it became an immediate hit, and Curry became well-known for his portrayal of the evil mad scientist and transvestite.
He carried on portraying the role in Broadway and Los Angeles performances of “The Rocky Horror Show.” After that, Curry starred in Tom Stoppard’s “Travesties,” another popular show, as renowned dadaist Tristan Tzara. His achievements simply became better throughout the years.
His first Tony Award nomination came from playing the title role in the Broadway version of “Amadeus” in 1981. Curry portrayed the Pirate King in Joe Papp’s rendition of “The Pirates of Penzance” the following year. He participated in shows including “The Rivals,” “The Threepenny Opera,” “Dalliance,” and “Me and My Girl” for the rest of the decade.
Curry drew praise and his second Tony nomination in the early 1990s for his performance as Alan Swann in the Broadway musical version of “My Favorite Year.” He performed as Scrooge in a musical adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” to usher in the twenty-first century.
When Curry started starring as King Arthur in the Monty Python musical “Spamalot” in 2004, it was his next big break. He received an Olivier Award nomination in addition to his third Tony nomination for his efforts. “What About Dick?” starring Eric Idle is one of Curry’s other theater credits.
