Gerald Springer was born in London, England, on February 13, 1944. His parents were Jews who had to leave Germany during the Holocaust because they were in danger. When Springer was five years old, his family moved to New York City after coming to the U.S.
He went to Forest Hills High School in Queens, New York, where he was on the debate team and studied politics very hard. He got a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in New Orleans and a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago.
In 1971, Springer was elected to the Cincinnati City Council, starting his political journey. He was only 27 years old when he was elected to the council, making him the youngest person to be chosen. During his time in politics, he was known for his progressive ideas and support for human rights. He also spoke out against the Vietnam War and worked to protect the earth.
After he left politics, he went to work in TV. Before getting his own talk show, “The Jerry Springer Show,” in 1991, he worked as a political reporter and host for several local news stations.
The guests on the show often got into heated fights and fought with each other, which made it known as one of the most controversial shows on TV. Even though the show was controversial, it was a huge hit and ran for 27 seasons.
Aside from his talk show, the TV personality has been on many other shows and pictures, such as “America’s Got Talent,” “Dancing with the Stars,” and “Ringmaster.” He has also had minor roles in films like “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” and “Kung Pow! Enter the Fist.”
