Xiong received her degree in political science from Northfield, Minnesota’s Carleton College. Xiong performed in stand-up shows while attending college, characterizing his comedy as a means of “celebrating cultural diversity through laughter.”
A popular motivational speaker who combined humour and storytelling, Xiong also starred in the 1997 television film Portraits from the Cloth, which followed the journey of a Hmong family fleeing war. His comedic routine would incorporate his anecdotes of growing up as a Hmong refugee.
In 2011, Xiong wed women’s rights activist Andrea Bennett. In 2013, Bennet won the title of Mrs. Minnesota International. The two split up in the year 2019.
Xiong shared a video of himself at a Karol G concert in Colombia on Facebook on December 3. His most recent post, from December 7, featured him singing along to karaoke in a Colombian apartment.
