Tim Robinson’s Early Life
On May 23, 1981, Tim Robinson was born in Detroit, Michigan. Having grown up primarily in Clarkstown, Michigan, where he attended Clarkstown High School, his parents divorced when he was a small child.
Tim started taking weekend improv classes at Second City Detroit after graduating from high school in 2000.

Tim eventually joined Second City Chicago after touring with the Second City troupe out of Detroit. His CBS sitcom “Friend Me” did not air in 2011, during which he was a series regular.
When Robinson appeared as a featured player on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) for the 2012–2013 season, his career took off. He asked to go from the cast to the writing team after one season. This was a pivotal time for him as it established him as a national comedy icon. From 2013 to 2016, he was a member of the writing team and received an Emmy nomination for his contributions.
Following his time on Saturday Night Live, Robinson collaborated on the comedy series “Detroiters” with fellow comic Sam Richardson, a friend from his days on Second City and a native of Detroit.
Well-received and showcasing Robinson’s talents as a performer and creator, the show ran on Comedy Central for two seasons from 2017 to 2018. Executive producers of the program were Lorne Michaels and Jason Sudeikis.
Robinson kept venturing into new television and film genres at the same time. In addition to appearing in movies like “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” and “The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience,” he had a recurring role on the Netflix series “The Characters.”
