Craig Mazin, the producer on the HBO adaptation of The Last Of Us recently opened up about how he’s approaching the game’s story. He was speaking to BBC Radio 5 about his work on Chernobyl, which happened to sweep the BAFTAs recently.
Craig Mazin Reassures Fans Who May Be Nervous About His The Last Of Us HBO Adaption
Inevitably, the topic of The Last Of Us came up, and he spoke about what fans can expect from his take on Naughty Dog’s masterpiece. “I think fans of something worry that, when the property gets licensed to someone else, those people don’t really understand it, or are going to change it,” Mazin said.
He reassured fans that this won’t happen with his adaptation of The Last Of Us, though. “I’m doing it with the guy who did it, and so the changes that we’re making are designed to fill things out and expand,” he said.

Craig Mazin Talks About Reworking The Last Of Us’ Story For A TV Show
Mazin also spoke about how they’re working to fit the game’s story into a TV series. “We’re creating anew and we’re also reimagining what is already there to present a different format,” he said. “It’s kind of a dream come true for me. I’m a little bit scared because a lot of emotions connected to this game are rather intense. I think I’m probably going to go hide in a bunker for a while because you can’t make everyone happy!”

Craig Mazin Has Been A Fan Of The Game For Years
Based on the fan reception to The Last Of Us Part II is probably right to be scared. Still, this is about as good an outcome as fans of the game could’ve hoped for. Chernobyl is an absolutely incredible mini-series. To have the guy behind it working on this adaptation is literally the best-case scenario.
It’s not like Mazin is coming into this blind, either. He has been a fan of the game for years. We don’t yet know who’s going to be playing Joel, Ellie and the rest of the characters, though. Hopefully, we’ll find out soon.
