The Flash is one of DC’s most popular characters, and this picture will be the first time that The Scarlet Speedster has led his own movie. Barry Allen has been running on TV for almost a decade, and now that Grant Gustin is leaving the show, Ezra Miller will take over the part of the fastest man alive.
Regarding The Flash, the project has been at the center of much debate. The movie has had four different directors, the story has been rewritten several times, and the star has been in legal trouble over the past year. There are a lot of questions about The Flash, and we’re going to answer each and every one of them. Here’s all the information you need about The Flash.
When Is The Flash Coming Out?
On June 16, 2023, The Flash will speed into theatres. After Shazam: Fury of the Gods, this will be the second DC movie of the year. The films Blue Beetle, Aquaman, and The Lost Kingdom will come before it. We don’t know what will happen in the DC Universe after 2023, but Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson McGoldrick has already written a sequel to The Flash.
Like previous movies like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” “The Flash” will have its world premiere at this year’s CinemaCon in April, two months before it comes out in June. This seems to confirm the rumors that Warner Bros. has a lot of faith in the superhero movie.
What Is The Flash About?
The Flash goes back in time to stop his mother from being killed, but he makes changes that lead to the creation of a world. The movie is based on the famous DC Comics storyline Flashpoint, in which Flash meets new versions of Batman and Superman as he tries to stop the universe from falling apart.
The Flash’s official plot summary from Warner Bros. reads:
Warner Bros. Pictures presents “The Flash,” directed by Andy Muschietti (the “IT” films, “Mama”). Ezra Miller reprises their role as Barry Allen in the DC Super Hero’s first-ever standalone feature film. Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
Who Are The Cast And Crew Of The Flash?
In the movie, Ezra Miller plays Barry Allen/The Flash. The actor will play the part for the third time in the DC Universe or the fourth time if you count both versions of Justice League. This will be the character’s first solo movie appearance. Miller recently agreed to plead guilty to trespassing charges in 2022. This means he won’t have to go to jail for three months.
In August, the star talked about their behavior, saying:
“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, and productive stage in my life.”
Kiersey Clemons will play Iris West, and Ben Affleck will play Bruce Wayne/Batman. Sasha Calle will play Supergirl. Temuera Morrison will play Tom Curry, Michael Keaton will play Bruce Wayne/Batman, Ron Livingston will replace Billy Crudup as Henry Allen, Maribel Verd will play Nora Allen, Michael Shannon will play General Zod, and Antje Traue will play Faora-Ul. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, and Luke Brandon Field will be in the movie, but their roles haven’t been revealed.
Andy Muschietti, who made the movie “IT,” is in charge. He is the fourth director who has been involved with the project. Before Muschietti took over, The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The LEGO Batman Movie’s writer Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night) were all set to direct between 2014 and 2019. Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey) and Joby Harold (Army of the Dead) write The Flash.
Comic Book History And Inspiration
The Flash is a movie based on the same-named comic book character. Barry Allen is a forensic scientist who gets skills after being hit by lightning and falling onto a shelf of chemicals. Allen is the second person to become The Flash. The first was Jay Garrick, a Justice Society of America member. Wally West, a founding member of the Teen Titans and a core member of the Justice League, is the third.
After getting super speed, Barry Allen thinks he can use his powers for good and protects Central City from his large group of bad guys. The Scarlet Speedster becomes a founding member of the Justice League, best friends with Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), and a key player in almost every significant event in DC Comics.
In Flashpoint, a series by Geoff Johns, Barry returns to stop his mother from being killed. This is one of Barry’s most important stories. This causes a shift in time, bringing about the world’s end. Now, Barry has to put things right and find a way to reset the universe before it’s too late.
The Flash movie is based on Flashpoint, and different parts of that story will be used in the film. The first change is that Michael Keaton plays Batman instead of Ben Affleck. Also, Sasha Calle will likely take over Superman’s part in the story.

Will The Flash Be Available On Streaming?
In 2020, Warner Bros. released all of their films in theatres and on HBO Max at the same time. Later in 2021, the company switched to a 45-day release window, during which the movie could only be seen in theatres. As of 2022, the company is slowly returning to how things were before. Most films aren’t on HBO Max for at least three months. If The Flash does well, it’s a safe bet that the movie won’t be available until at least October.
Will The Flash Movie Tie Into The TV Series?
The CW’s TV show “The Flash” is about to start its ninth and last season. In 2020, during “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” Ezra Miller’s Flash did meet Grant Gustin’s, Barry Allen. Even though there will be different versions of Batman in The Flash movie and even different versions of Barry, it doesn’t seem likely that they will meet again. Gustin answered the question at last by saying:
No. There’s been a lot of rumors out there for a long time, and no one’s come out directly and asked me, ever, on the record. You know, people ask me on the street all the time and, yeah, I’m not keeping some big elaborate secret.
Is The Flash Connected To The Other DC Films?
The Flash movie takes place in the world of DC Comics. It is related to the film Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, Shazam, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, and The Suicide Squad. It has nothing to do with Batman or The Joker, who live in their own worlds.
That said, James Gunn and Peter Safran are bringing the DC Universe into a new age. Many of the most famous characters, like Superman and Batman, are being played by new actors. This may sound problematic, but Gunn explained how the new movie would fit into his DCU.
“So, how can we take these things together and make them make sense and have them unified and have it one real universe?…I think that we’ve gotten lucky with the next four movies, frankly, because we have Shazam, which leads into Flash, which resets everything which then goes into Blue Beetle, which is totally disconnected…But the one thing that we can promise is that everything from…our first project forward, will be canon, and will be connected. We’re using some actors from the past, we’re not using other actors from the past. But everything from that moment forward will be connected and consistent.”
Gunn also had high praises to say about the film:
“Can I say one more thing? The Flash is fucking amazing. Like it’s one of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen. [Director] Andy Muschietti did an amazing job.”
Ben Affleck co-starred in Justice League alongside The Flash star Ezra Miller. Affleck confirms the major DCEU connections by detailing a scene he shot with another DC hero.
“I don’t wanna give a spoiler, but it was a scene where I get caught, I get saved by Wonder Woman during a conflagration with some bad guys. And she saves me by– I mean, I’m sure the spoiler, DC assassins are gonna get me, but […] she saves me with the Lasso of Truth. And so what happens is that Batman divulges some of his real feelings about his life and his work… I was like, ‘Wait a minute, I got it!'”
