Leah Messer, the mother of a teenager with rare titin muscular dystrophy, said that OSU has researched Ali’s biopsy for treatments and cures.
Leah Messer reflects on Ali’s journey: ‘Had I stopped looking for a diagnosis, I would never be to this point where 12 years into it, we’re finding a cure and research.’ Leah Messer points to Alis’s career as her daughter s livelihood.
Dr. Drew, 62, pointed out another big milestone in Ali’s journey with her longtime physician, Dr. Tsao, when he revealed that there have been hundreds of other people in the world diagnosed with the same titin muscular dystrophy as Ali since 2012.
With a larger number of patients to research, studies have found that patients can live into their 70s with the condition. This is an impressive update considering when Ali was diagnosed in 2014, people with titin muscular dystrophy could only live into their mid-20s at this time.
Drew also learned the outlook had changed markedly for Macy s cancer. I’ve been waiting very impatiently to hear from my oncologist, he said. When you’re told they need more time and you don t know why that is, that s really hard.
Later in the interview, Leah also shared updates on her battle with addiction and her recent scare when she found a lump on her breast which thankfully turned out to be benign.
