Taylor Swift and her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn let the paparazzi and fans know that their love story is still very much going on less than four days before Midnights came out. On Monday, Swift and Alwyn were seen out and about in New York City wearing fall clothes. Swift wore hoop earrings with a plaid miniskirt, a long dark sweater, and dark Calzedonia tights. Alwyn, on the other hand, wore a green sweater, black-rimmed glasses, and jeans. He also had a notebook with him because well, why not?
Swift and Alwyn aren’t photographed out in public together very often. The last time paps caught the couple together was in July in London. Swift shut down engagement rumors then or at least didn’t visually confirm them, because she was out without a ring on her left ring finger.
Swift talked about the Midnight’s track “Lavender Haze” earlier this month. She said that it was inspired by her relationship with Alwyn and how they managed to be in the public eye while keeping their love story as private as possible.
In a video she posted to Instagram she said, “Lavender Haze is the first song on Midnights.” “When I was watching Mad Men, I heard the phrase “lavender haze.” I looked it up because it seemed interesting. And it turns out that it was a common way to talk about being in love in the 1950s. If you are in the “lavender haze,” you are in that all-encompassing love glow. And I thought that was gorgeous.”
She went on, “I guess, in theory, when you’re in the “lavender haze,” you’ll do anything to stay there.” “Don’t let anyone pull you down from that high. I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just “public figures,” because we live in the age of social media and if the world finds out you’re in love with someone they’ll have something to say about it. For six years, my boyfriend and I have had to avoid weird rumors and tabloid stories, but we just don’t care. So, this song is about ignoring that stuff in order to protect what’s important.
