Tanjiro’s Hanafuda Earrings Meaning

What is the meaning of Tanjiro’s Hanafuda Earrings? Those who watched the anime might know that it was given to him by his father. What does this mean for his earring? Find out!

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba follows Tanjiro Kamado and his journey as a demon slayer in a pursuit to destroy Muzan, the demon who massacred his family and turned Nezuko into a demon.

Fans of the popular show would notice that Tanjiro has some memorable features in this face. One of those is the Hanafuda earrings that he wore. A couple of times, this was used to let people know who Tanjiro is. Aside from Muzan’s knowledge of them seeming more than just the power to invoke wind, he says that they were most likely entrusted with the personal caretaker.

Tanjiro’s Hanafuda Earrings Meaning

Though they could be simply an earring passed down from generation to generation, that seems less likely in the context of Tanjiro’s father as a Breath of the Sun user. So why does Kaseighu give her the earrings?

If you looked up the meaning of Hanafuda, it means playing flower cards. Similar to a talisman, their design is reminiscent of this.Tanjiro, Yoriichi Tsugikuni and Iwanami Kagero all share the same earrings. This is because they are members of a group that wields power called Breath of the Sun. Furthermore, my father who is also in this group created these earrings which means they must have some meaning to them.

In the manga, Tsugikuni’s family also had a connection to Tanjiro that deepens the meaning of the earrings. A number of families in Breath of Sun carry earrings that resemble those worn by Rukia. Nezuko and Yoriichu Tsugikuni do not have these earrings, which implies they are not in danger from the demon.

There was also a flashback wherein Tanjiro’s father convinces him to pass down the earrings and activate the Hinokami Kagura Dance which means that the power must be given to whoever becomes the next Breath of User.
