PlayStation players found a problem. Some people who own the console are losing their digital licenses. This means they can’t play games they bought before.
Digital games we buy might not stay available forever. Sometimes, the companies take them down or shut down the servers. This means we could lose access to what we’ve bought.Buying movies and TV shows can be tricky. For example, Sony’s Funimation streaming service recently shut down. Users were upset because they found out they couldn’t transfer their purchased content to Crunchyroll.
The recent problem with PlayStation was discovered by a person on Reddit named dSuds2342 who mentioned it. “PSA: People are losing access to their digital licences, and people need to be talking about it.”
In my case, I’ve had my PSN account since 2007 and right now, the only content I can access is anything I added to my account after roughly 11:50pm on Thursday, February 29th, 2024.”
The person thinks their game system got a bug when they played Helldivers II and got an error message CE-117773-6. They searched online and were told to ‘Restore Licences’, but that’s when the issues started.
Although it seems like PlayStation should be able to fix this quickly, dSuds2342 says they’re stuck with the company’s customer service. The person said that this problem has hurt more than 50 other people they know.
“We need legislators to pass laws that protect consumer rights when it comes to digital goods. Until that happens we will always be getting the s**t side of the stick,”
I usually buy actual games when I can, but sometimes I have to get digital ones too. It’s important to make sure those digital purchases are safe.
As I said, this seems like a problem that can be fixed. Let’s hope that by talking about this issue, PlayStation players can use their games again soon.
