Patrick Duffy, the son of bar proprietors Terence and Marie “Babe” Duffy, was born in Townsend, Montana, on May 17, 1949. After relocating to Everett, Washington, Duffy enrolled in Cascade High School. Duffy was involved in the Drama and Pep Clubs when he was a teenager.
He earned a degree in drama and theater arts credits from the University of Washington in 1971, which qualified him to become a teacher. Patrick Duffy Career
Early in the 1970s, Duffy relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he attempted to succeed as an actor for several years. After playing in minor roles in a couple of TV movies and in an episode of “Switch” in 1976, his big break came in 1976 when he earned the lead part in the science-fiction series “Man From Atlantis.” I
n the program, Duffy portrayed Mark Harris, a creature from the long-lost continent of Atlantis who a research scientist found unconscious on a beach. Harris appeared human, but he was limited to a short period out of the water due to webbed hands and feet. The fall of 1977 to the spring of the following year was the only season that the show ran.
“Dallas,” his next part, was not an instant hit, but it would come to define his career. Duffy quit the series in 1985 in search of more daring roles because he was sick of being the nice guy, even though the show eventually became almost a cult classic. The show “killed off” him.
