Orlando Sanchez’s Journey to Martial Arts Mastery
Orlando Sanchez was born in 1982 in La Caada, California. He excelled at various sports as a child, particularly football. He even participated in sports in college. He began to party excessively after graduating from college and lost focus on important issues.
His way of living led to issues with drinking and drug use, which made him feel terrible. He became severely overweight at the age of 26, weighing 360 pounds.
He made the decision that he needed to make a change in his life. A friend recommended he visit a Muay Thai club, which revolutionized his perspective on martial arts.

Through Muay Thai, he met Alberto Crane, a Gracie Barra expert who became Orlando’s mentor in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Orlando discovered he had a natural talent for grappling and advanced to the rank of brown belt in just three years. During this time, he won the IBJJF Pan-American Championship, Grapplers Quest, and the Gracie Nationals.
At Gracie Barra, Orlando had the opportunity to train with some of the best coaches and athletes in the world, including Romulo Barral, Draculino, and José Olmpio (also known as Ze Radiola).
After winning more major competitions, such as the Pan American Championships and the Brazilian Nationals, he became friends with Olmpio, who awarded him his black belt in September 2012.
Orlando Sanchez also learnt MMA and trained at Kings MMA under Rafael Cordeiro. He became one of Fabricio Werdum’s primary training partners. From 2010 until 2015, he had a solid MMA record, with 5 victories, 0 defeats, and 1 draw.
