Nancy Jane Kulp, the daughter of Marjorie C. and Robert Tilden Kulp, was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Her father was a traveling salesman and her mother was a schoolteacher. She was their only child.

She was born and raised in her hometown before the family relocated to Miami-Dade County, Florida, in the United States. Nancy continued her education by enrolling in Florida State University, then known as Florida State College for Women, following high school. There, she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

She continued her education by pursuing a master’s degree in English and French at the University of Miami. Nancy Kulp Political Career and Acting Teacher

Nancy ran as the Democratic nominee from Pennsylvania’s 9th congressional district for the US House of Representatives while she took a break from performing. Only 33.6% of the vote separated her from Republican opponent Bud Shuster in the election. She places the responsibility on her co-star Buddy Ebsen, who in a radio ad for Buddy Shuster called Nancy “too liberal.”

Nancy was an artist-in-residence and acting instructor at Juniata College, a private liberal arts college in Huntington, Pennsylvania, before her comeback to the screen.

With her rising popularity in the early 1960s, Nancy was able to land her first professional part in 1962 as Jane Hathaway on the television series “The Beverly Hillbillies” (1962–1971). Alongside Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Max Baer Jr., and Donna Douglas, Nancy featured in 246 episodes.

Nancy continued to appear on television after the conclusion of “Beverly Hillbillies,” first as Mrs. Gruber in “The Brian Keith Show” (1973–1974) and later as May Hopkins in “Sanford and Son” (1975–1976). Nancy played Jane Hathaway again in the 1981 television movie “The Return of the Beverly Hillbillies.” She continued to perform until her death, except for a brief break from 1983 to 1986.

Her final on-screen appearance was in an episode of ABC Afterschool Specials in 1989. She had a few cameo appearances in the 1980s, including in the TV shows “Simon & Simon” (1986) and “Scarecrow and Mrs. King” (1986).
