Moe Berg Wife: Was He Married At the Time of His Death?

Moe Berg was a well-known American professional baseball catcher and instructor. Though he played for four American League teams throughout a 15-season career, Berg was more known for his extraordinary intelligence than for his physical skill.

Casey Stengel referred to him as “the brainiest guy in baseball.” He was a Princeton University and Columbia Law School graduate. Berg loved to learn new languages, spoke several, and read 10 newspapers a day with great enthusiasm. His successful participation on the radio quiz show Information Please, where he demonstrated his knowledge of etymology, history, and foreign politics, further cemented his reputation as an intellectual.

Moe Berg Death

At the age of 70, Moe Berg passed suddenly on May 29, 1972, from injuries he had received in a fall at home. The events leading up to his death demonstrated his enduring love of baseball, as a nurse at the hospital in Belleville, New Jersey, where he passed away, remembered his final words as being, “How did the Mets do today?” To Berg’s eternal delight in baseball, the Mets had truly prevailed that day.

This last deed highlighted the rich and varied life that Berg had led, including his contributions to baseball and his role in espionage, by tying his last burial place to a site of great historical and cultural significance.
