Marvel’s Avengers: M.O.D.O.K., A.I.M. Revealed To Be Main Story Villains

Marvel’s Avengers had a massive info drop recently from their June War Table live stream. Developers Crystal Dynamics revealed a bunch of details about how the game will work, as well as its main story. We’ve already seen how the game’s story kicks off in previous trailers.

Marvel’s Avengers Deals With The Creation Of The Inhumans

Crystal Dynamics’ Editorial Director, Casey Lynch walked us through the entire live stream and explained how the story will kick-off.

It opens on A-Day, a celebration of the Avengers achievements in San Francisco. However, following an attack from Taskmaster, as well as an assault on the Avengers’ Hellicarrier, we see some massive consequences. Not only does Captain America die in this attack, the Terrigen crystal powering the Hellicarrier explodes, leading to the creation of superpowered beings known as “Inhumans” all over the city.

M.O.D.O.K. Will Be The Main Villain In Marvel’s Avengers

In the aftermath of this disaster, the Avengers disband and get branded as villains. Meanwhile, Advanced Idea Mechanics or A.I.M, as well as one of its founders, Dr George Tarleton, claim that they can cure the Inhumans. Tarleton himself turns into M.O.D.O.K, a character that Marvel comics fans will be familiar with.

Casey Lynch explained why they went with M.O.D.O.K. as the villain for their Marvel’s Avengers game. “When choosing a villain, we knew we needed someone who had the muscle and mental capacity to become an Avengers-level threat,” he said. “We also wanted a new face for modern Avengers fans. A big face” quipped Lynch, in reference to M.O.D.O.K.’s look.

Ms Marvel Will Play A Pivotal Role In Marvel’s Avengers

The story picks up years later when Kamala Khan, aka Ms Marvel, discovers evidence that the Avengers were framed during the A-Day disaster. She comes to them with this information, and they all then set out to clear their names.

Marvel’s Avengers comes out on September 4, 2020, on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
