Mark Davis Career
Mark became managing general partner of the Oakland Raiders after Davis and his mother inherited the team. He oversees the day-to-day operations of the Raiders as the team’s operating head. Mark attends owners’ meetings on behalf of the team as well. With the Oakland Coliseum’s lease coming to an end and the venue having several problems due to its age, Davis started looking for a location to construct a new stadium for the Raiders.
Despite his original desire to keep the team in Oakland, he declared in February 2015 that the franchise would be collaborating with the San Diego Chargers and their owner, Dean Spanos, to pursue a joint stadium in Carson, California, a community in Los Angeles County.
The Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s bid competed with theirs and ultimately prevailed. The NFL gave the Raiders move to Las Vegas approval in March 2017. The NBA and WNBA approved the transaction the next month when Mark bought the Las Vegas Aces WNBA team from MGM Resorts International in January 2021. Season ticket holders, that is, until Davis became the team’s owner. When he appointed Becky Hammon as the Aces’ head coach in May 2021, she rose to the position of the highest-paid coach in the league.
