Nugent, the younger daughter of an MGM prop man, appeared in two films directed by Douglas Sirk: Magnificent Obsession (1954), in which she played a tomboy who tried to cheer up a depressed widow played by Jane Wyman, and There’s Always Tomorrow (1956), in which she played one of Fred MacMurray’s and Joan Bennett’s daughters.
During the third season of ABC’s The Mickey Mouse Club, Nugent played Annette Funicello’s friend Jet Maypen in the serial Annette, which debuted in 1958. The Ruggles, starring Nugent at age 9, was one of the first live TV shows to originate in Hollywood rather than New York and included Jimmy Hawkins (It’s a Wonderful Life) as Donna’s brother Donald. The show ran on ABC from 1949 until 1952.
