‘It was great learning for me,’ Rohit Sharma Gives All Credit To Ricky Ponting For Learning Leadership Skills From Him
During a press conference, Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma gives all credit to former Australia captain and current Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting. Rohit Sharma mentions that he learnt all his leadership skills from Ricky Ponting.

Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma took the captaincy from Ponting in 2013. And in 2013 only, Mumbai Indians won the IPL tournament for the first time. Rohit also said that he even learned to give importance to each of the players from the former Australian Captain. He also mentions that he is happy with the efforts and contributions from his teammates and admits that his performance is also important for the team.
Rohit Sharma also mentions that he gives importance to all the 10 players of his team. He would talk to them and make them feel their importance.
“I see how I can get little contributions from all the players. And of course, my performance is also important,” the India opener said on the first episode of India Today Inspiration season 2.
Rohit also mentioned about the first thing that he learned from Ricky Ponting. Ricky asked him to focus on his teammates feedback rather than considering his own. He asked him to take his final decision only after considering all his teammates opinion.
Australia won two ODI World Cups and also was in the first position in both Tests and ODIs under Ponting’s captaincy. He is now the coach of Mumbai Indians in IPL.
