We got a bit more information about Horizon Forbidden West in a recent video update from Guerilla Games. This is in addition to the trailer that we already got at the PlayStation 5 reveal event a few days ago.
Horizon Forbidden West Will Blitz Through Loading Screens
In this one, the game’s director, Mathijs De Jonge talks about some capabilities that the PlayStation 5’s SSD makes possible.
“With the PS5’s SSD, there will be virtually no loading screens. So in an open-world video game, like Horizon Forbidden West, if you open up the map and fast travel from one end to the other, restarting from a checkpoint will be super fast,” he said.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney Has Also Spoken About The PS5’s SSD
This blazing speed will also let you start the game extremely quickly. “When you boot up the game, you’re right there in the action,” said De Jonge. We’ve been hearing about the PlayStation 5’s SSD for months at this point. It has drawn praise from various industry insiders, including Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney.
“The storage architecture on the PS5 is far ahead of anything you can buy on anything on PC for any amount of money right now. It’s going to help drive future PCs. [The PC market is] going to see this thing ship and say, ‘Oh wow, SSDs are going to need to catch up with this,” said Sweeney.
Horizon Forbidden West Will Feel Like A True Next-Gen Game
Eliminating loading screens seem like the kind of feature that you would want from a new generation of consoles. However, until now, it has all been theoretical. Now, to hear that an upcoming AAA title like Horizon Forbidden West is going to take advantage of it is extremely exciting.
