Halo Infinite Multiplayer Might Be Free-To-Play

We haven’t heard anything about the multiplayer in Halo Infinite yet. Now, according to a deleted store page, we’re learning that it might be free-to-play. The Smyths Toys website put up a listing for the Xbox Series X, which included a little blurb about Halo Infinite.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer Details Leaked By Smyths Toys

“The legendary Halo series returns with the most expansive Master Chief campaign yet and a groundbreaking free-to-play multiplayer experience. Enjoy up to 120 FPS and greatly reduced load times creating seamless gameplay with Xbox Series X,” it reads.

Smyths Toys has since taken down the listing. However, The Verge managed to grab a Google cache version of the page. Reliable Xbox insider Klobrille also chimed in on the matter. He corroborated all the claims in the now-deleted post on the Smyths Toys website.

343 Industries Has Not Shared Official Details Regarding Multiplayer

While Microsoft and 343 Industries themselves haven’t said anything, it’s safe to say that this will end up being true. The Halo series has a great sci-fi world with fun singleplayer stories. However, the series’ multiplayer is especially popular both among casual gamers as well as within the esports community.

Also, a lot of people are focusing on the free-to-play aspect, but the claim that it will run at 120fps is what’s most impressive in all of this. I hope that’s true because it’s going to feel incredible to play.

Halo Infinite Continues The Trend Of Separate Multiplayer Experiences

Halo Infinite also wouldn’t be the first game that offers its multiplayer mode as a standalone, free-to-play experience. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare also offers its Warzone battle royale mode as a separate, free experience.

If this does end up being true, then Halo Infinite’s campaign will have to be a hell of a story. After all, if the multiplayer component is free, people may be satisfied with just that much. They might as well save themselves $60 and skip out on the singleplayer portion of the game.

We did learn that we’d be seeing Halo Infinite’s multiplayer soon during the Xbox Games Showcase. Since the game itself is only a few months away, we might see it in August itself.
