Gamescom 2020: Organizers Confirm This Year’s Event Will Be Digital

Gamescom 2020 joins an ever-increasing list of events that are taking the digital route this year. Many other events have had to do something similar in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. The Tokyo Game Show is another event that’s doing the same thing. EVO, the esports fighting tournament, is also going to hold an online competition this year.

Gamescom 2020 Going Digital

So, it’s not a surprise that Gamescom 2020 is also doing the same thing as everyone else. However, most other events that have gone down this road haven’t said much beyond the fact they’re changing their format. That’s not the case with Gamescom 2020.

We have a fairly detailed understanding of what they’re planning already. This is quite the surprise, given the fact that they’ve scheduled this digital event from August 27, 2020, to August 30, 2020. While it’ll be a bummer that it won’t take place in Cologne like the organisers, Koelnmesse, originally planned, this is better than nothing.

Has A Number Of Different Shows Planned

So, what do we have to look forward to? Koelnmesse issued a press release on the Gamescom website that fills us in on all the details. The first night, which they’ve titled Opening Night Live, is going to have Geoff Keighley as the host. Keighley is a veteran of the video game industry. He’s the host of The Game Awards, after all, so he’s the perfect person to kick things off.

Gamescom 2020 is also going to have some new events it’s going to debut this year. One of them is called “Awesome Indies”. As the name suggests, this is going to be a part of the event that highlights indie games specifically. That’s not all that Gamescom 2020 is going to have, though.

Gamescom 2020 Will Wrap Up With An Awards Show

We’re also getting a Daily Show which will recap on each day’s events. They’re also going to interview various developers about the games they’re working on.¬†Finally, the “Best Of Show” event will wrap thing up for Gamescom 2020. This will be feature highlights of the event itself, as well as an awards show.

It’s a long wait till we actually get to the end of August, but it should be quite exciting once it comes around.
