Gabriel Fernandez Autopsy Report
One of the most horrific and upsetting examples of child abuse in recent history is that of Gabriel Fernandez. Pearl Fernandez and her lover Isauro Aguirre abused and tortured their eight-year-old son Gabriel. On May 22, 2013, paramedics responded to a report about a toddler who was having trouble breathing and transported Gabriel to the hospital.
The medical staff at the hospital where Gabriel was taken found various injuries. At Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Dr. Alyssa Rake checked on Gabriel in the pediatric intensive care unit. Dr. Rake concluded that Gabriel was brain-dead because he showed no reaction to stimuli and needed assistance breathing.
Gabriel’s injuries were extensive: he had a fractured skull, many broken ribs, a BB lodged in his lung, and numerous other wounds including burns, cuts, and bruises. Gabriel lost away on May 24, 2013, two days after being pronounced brain dead by doctors at the Children’s Hospital. Gabriel had suffered from physical force injuries, neglect, and starvation, according to the official autopsy.

The Gabriel Fernandez story is heartbreaking. Autopsy showed his skull felt like Rice Krispie’s, cigarette burns on his body, only cat litter found in his stomach contents, beat with baseball bats. His mother gave him up at birth and thought he was gay. Let that sink in. 8 months

The Heartbreaking Story of Gabriel Fernandez’s Untimely Death
Pearl Fernandez, Gabriel’s biological mother, struggled with drug addiction and mental illness for a long time. Pearl was convicted of theft and fraud multiple times and battled meth and alcohol addiction. And because of the harm she did to her kid, she was found guilty of child cruelty.
Arnold Contreras, Gabriel’s father, is also commonly referred to as a “enabler.” Contreras was not abusive, but he did not defend Gabriel when he needed it. His criminal history was extensive, and he was accused of several minor offences, such as cruelty to animals and drunk driving.
First-degree murder convictions were handed down against Pearl Fernandez and Arnold Contreras for their roles in Gabriel’s death. Five counts of torture, four acts of child abuse, and one point of wrongful detention were added to the list of charges against them. The DCFS is currently overseeing Gabriel’s legal proceedings, along with those of other high-profile child deaths.
Who Are Gabriel Fernandez Parents?
Gabriel Fernandez was born to Pearl Fernandez and Arnold Contreras. Arnold is Pearl’s lover; the two of them were together for a long time before Gabriel was born. Gabriel witnessed firsthand his parents’ struggles with addiction and domestic violence throughout his childhood.
Gabriel’s death at age 8 in 2013 was the tragic result of years of physical abuse and neglect at the hands of his parents. In 2018, a jury found Pearl Fernandez and Arnold Contreras guilty of murder in the death of Gabriel. The death penalty was imposed on Contreras, while Fernandez was given a life sentence without the possibility of release. As a result of this case, child welfare laws in California have been revised to better protect vulnerable children.

How Did Gabriel Fernandez Survive Such Systematic Abuse?
Gabriel Fernandez suffered systematic abuse and torture throughout his eight-month detention at the home of Pearl Fernandez and Isauro Aguirre. Physical abuse included regular beatings that resulted in broken bones; being forced to eat cat litter and faeces, his own vomit, and spoiled or expired foods; being burned with cigarettes and heated spoons; being shot with a BB gun in various areas of the body, including the face and groin; being pepper-sprayed; being forced to wear women’s clothing; being forced to sleep bound and gagged in a small cupboard; and having his teeth knocked out with a bat.
Gabriel’s brothers claim that their mother and stepfather would laugh at him while he was being mistreated. Prosecutors claim that Aguirre abused Fernandez because he was gay and prejudiced toward Fernandez.
