What Type of Cancer Did Freddy Steinmark Have?
Freddie Steinmark received a diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a highly aggressive form of bone cancer, during his final year of high school in Texas. Steinmark, a member of the Longhorns football team, participated in a significant game in 1969, where the Longhorns narrowly defeated Arkansas 15-14.
Shortly after this victory, Steinmark experienced severe leg pain and informed his coach, Darrell Royal, about it. Concerned, Coach Royal urged Steinmark to undergo an X-ray.

The X-ray revealed a dangerous tumor in Steinmark’s thigh bone, indicating cancer. As a result, doctors performed surgery to amputate his left leg in an attempt to halt the cancer’s spread. Remarkably, just three weeks after his surgery, Steinmark joined his team for another pivotal game, the Cotton Bowl, against Notre Dame. He even led the team onto the field despite his recent surgery.
