Facebook Bans New Political Ads Before Election 2020!!

Latest Facebook Updates For Election 2020

On Thursday, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook bans new political ads or updates till the election of 2020. The decision has been taken to stop the spreading of rumours regarding the election. Facebook updates that by, it is done to “secure the integrity of this year’s elections.”

The company also said that it would remove posts which include false claims which say that people can develop coronavirus y voting. Facebook would attach “information labels” to posts that undermine election results 2020. If any election candidate declares victory before the election results, Facebook will label those posts as authoritative information.

Mark Zuckerberg said, “This election is not going to be business as usual. We all have a responsibility to protect our democracy. That means helping people register and vote, clearing up confusion about how this election will work, and taking steps to reduce the chances of violence and unrest.”

Facebook faced criticism due to the spread of rumours since the Presidential election in 2016. Facebook CEO mentioned that the advertisers that are already on the platform would able to run ads related to the election. But Facebook will not consider new advertisers as there is significantly less time left for the election.

“I generally believe the best antidote to bad speech is more speech, but in the final days of an election there may not be enough time to contest new claims,” Zuckerberg said.

He also said that Facebook would make a partnership with the State election council to identify false claims about the election or election results. He even informed that the latest updates from Voting Information Center would appear on top of the feed until the day of the election.

As per the latest update, Facebook will limit its users to forward chats, one person, at a time. It will also allow at least 4 million voters to register this year.
