Elden Ring is one of the most intriguing games that we know is on its way in the coming years. From Software have an incredible track record of games at this point. The Dark Souls series, Bloodborne and Sekiro – Shadows Die Twice are all a testament to their talent.
George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song Of Ice And Fire, the book series which HBO adapted into Game Of Thrones, is working on Elden Ring in some capacity. This sounds like a winning combination.
Bandai Namco May Be Facing Some Trademark Issues With Elden Ring
There’s just one problem, though. We haven’t heard anything about Elden Ring since From Software and Bandai Namco announced it at E3 2019. It’s not too much of a surprise, considering that the game is likely years away. However, complete radio silence about a game that’s likely to garner a lot of attention is a little strange.
So, what’s the holdup? As GameRant has reported, the folks over at Respawn First may have figured it out.
“Bandai Namco is having a hard time getting the Elden Ring trademark finalized. The application that was filed on June 18, 2019, got rejected by the USPTO in February of 2020. The reason behind its rejection is anyone’s guess but the fact is, the trademark did get rejected for either a trademark dispute or some error in the application,” notes Jake Bishop of Respawn First.
Elden Ring’s Trademark Issues May Have Been Sorted Out
It’s not all doom and gloom, though. The same article does mention that the Elden Ring trademark was published for opposition on the United State Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)’s website on April 14, 2020. Anyone who wished to file an opposition to it had 30 days to do so. We’re already past that point, so it’s likely that things will move ahead without a hitch.
News About Elden Ring May Still Be Far Away
We aren’t likely to hear anything about Elden Ring anytime soon despite this. Respawn First’s article also mentions that it’ll take 11 weeks for publisher Bandai Namco to get a notice of allowance. Still, this whole issue seems like a slight hiccup than a major hurdle.
Elden Ring doesn’t have a release date yet. It’s coming out for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
