House music producer and DJ Matthew Ward passed away suddenly on Oct. 20 at the age of 48.

Matthew Ward, who was best known as DJ Mighty Mouse, died suddenly in his sleep at his home in Spain on October 20. He was 48 years old. His record label, Defected Records, said that Ward’s death came as a surprise.

The statement said, “We are heartbroken to confirm that Matthew Ward, also known as Mighty Mouse, died suddenly last Thursday at his home in Spain.” “Matthew died of an aortic aneurysm while he was sleeping. Without his huge presence and a huge talent, we would all be lost. We’re thinking about his partner Ellen, his mother Judy, and the rest of his family, as well as his many friends and fans.

“Matthew was a really great person. “A real, honest guy,” says Wez Saunders, CEO of Defected. “We were all shocked to hear about his death. He will be missed very much. At this time, our thoughts are with his friends and family.”

Ward has been a DJ and producer for more than a decade, and his Disco Circus remix series is very popular. However, his 2019 song “The Spirit” was his breakout hit. It was released on Defected’s Glitterbox imprint, and BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac’s show named it the Hottest Record in the World. “Midnight Mouse (Revised),” an edit of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” by ABBA, became a cult hit after French DJ Folamour played it at the FLY Open Air Festival in 2019.

Ward put out a remix of Ridney & Inaya Day’s “Like You” earlier this month. In his last Instagram post, he said that the song had “lots of support” and that it did “really well in the club.”

Ward was supposed to be the DJ at a Halloween party on Saturday at The Lofts in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (Oct. 29).
