Arkane Lyon, the developers of the upcoming PS5 and PC game Deathloop have delayed the game’s release date to Q2 2021. Originally, the game was going to come out during the holiday 2020 period as a launch title for the PS5.
Arkane Studios Delayed Deathloop For Health And Safety Reasons
However, it is now coming out in the middle of 2021 instead. Arkane Lyon released a statement on Twitter explaining their move. “Out ambition for Deathloop is to deliver a signature Arkane game that takes you to never-before-seen places in a stylish new world,” they wrote. “At the same time, the health and safety of everyone at Arkane Lyon remains our top priority.”
They then go on to mention that the challenge of working from home has slowed down their progress. Arkane will simply need more time to polish the game properly and make it a next-gen experience. “While we know this is the right decision for Deathloop, we share your disappointment, and apologize for making you wait longer,” they wrote.

Deathloop Joins A Number Of Games That Have Delayed Their Release Dates
Deathloop joins a number of games that have delayed their release date in recent weeks. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is another game that is now coming out in 2021. The biggest name of all these delayed titles is, of course, Halo Infinite. Microsoft and 343 Industries announced that they’re also delaying it from holiday 2020 to 2021. Although, we don’t know when in 2021.

Delays Are Ultimately A Good Thing
343 Industries also cited similar reasons behind delaying Halo Infinite. It is quite refreshing to see this, too. Crunch culture is a huge problem in video game development. Reports on the subject have mentioned profile titles like Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us Part II and criticised the working conditions of its developers.
It’s largely impossible for us to guess whether these delays are actually taking the pressure off the developers. However, for now, all we can do is take these explanations at face value. I think Deathloop looks cool. If this delay makes it a better game while allowing the developers to take care of themselves, then this it’s worth the wait.
