Cyberpunk 2077 Concept Artist Talks About Night City’s Gun Culture

Cyberpunk 2077 concept artist Ben Andrews spoke to the Official PlayStation Magazine UK for their October edition. He specifically spoke about how guns factor into Night City’s society.

Cyberpunk 2077 Concept Artist Compares Night City’s Gun Culture To America

“One of the things we thought about with the weapons is that in Cyberpunk, we have a very overt weapon culture. It’s very different to the way weapons work in our world. This is like American gun culture just gone crazy, you know?”, he said, according to Altchar.

“Everybody has a gun because violence has been taken to the extremes. The idea that you may be mugged on your way home from work is extremely common, or your apartment might be broken into at the weekend. So, everybody’s carrying a gun,” he added.

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Many Weapons Manufacturers

Andrews also mentioned that there are various brands of weapons manufacturers. He specifically mentioned Budget Arms Slaughtomatic. This brand’s guns are really cheap and disposable. They aren’t anything special, but if you need something to keep yourself safe for a limited period of time, they’re perfect.

CD Projekt Red gave us a glimpse at the various weapons of Cyberpunk 2077 during their second Night City Wire episode. Senior gameplay designer Pawel Kapala also sat down with VG247 to talk about these manufacturers. He elaborated on the points that Andrews made with regard to the quality of weapons from different companies.

Quality Of Weapons Differs From One Manufacturer To Another

“Arasaka or Militech weapons are the highest quality, and you will feel it in actually using the gun. So, stuff like recoil will be more controllable, spread will be smaller on those weapons. You will hear that the sound is more subdued,” he said.

It’s frustrating enough how much we know about the game, despite it being months away. The fact that everything we know only makes it sound better only compounds that frustration. Patience. Patience.

Cyberpunk 2077 comes out on November 19, 2020, for the PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
