Chris Simon passed away on Tuesday night, according to his family, who attribute his death to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Beginning his professional career with the Quebec Nordiques, he transitioned with the team to Denver before moving on after their championship season in 1995-96. Simon’s journey in the NHL also included playing for teams such as the Washington Capitals and Calgary Flames.

In 2016 Simon participated in the alumni game in an Avalanche uniform at the 2016 Coors Light Stadium Series. Joe Sakic, the Avalanche Team President, paid tribute to Simon, describing him as a cherished teammate who will be deeply missed.
