Burt Freeman Bacharach was an American composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist. He wrote hundreds of pop songs in the late 1950s, many of them with Hal David. Bacharach has won six Grammy Awards and three Academy Awards, and more than 1,000 artists have recorded his songs. He had written 73 US Top 40 hits and 52 UK Top 40 hits as of 2014. He was one of the most important people to write popular music in the 20th century.

Career Details
Bacharach kept writing and producing music through the 1970s and 1980s, when he also made many TV and concert appearances. One of his most famous works was the score he wrote with David for the 1973 musical remake of “Lost Horizon.” The movie didn’t do well at the box office or with critics, and it led to several lawsuits between the two men and also with Warwick. This project was a big reason why Bacharach and David stopped working together for a long time.
Two years later, they got back together for a short time to write and make the album “For the First Time” by Stephanie Mills. Later, at the beginning of the 1980s, Bacharach began working with his wife and lyricist Carole Bayer Sager on a new project. “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do),” “Heartlight,” and “On My Own” were all hit songs that they worked on together. They also wrote “That’s What Friends Are For” for Warwick. Bacharach went on to play concerts all over the world, and he often played with Warwick at shows that were sold out.
Bacharach and Elvis Costello worked together to write and record “Painted from Memory” in 1998. The two won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for the song “I Still Have That Other Girl.” In the 2000s, Bacharach worked on projects like the album “Here I Am,” which he made with singer Ronald Isley, and the solo album “At This Time,” which had Elvis Costello and Rufus Wainwright as guests.
Later, in 2016, Bacharach wrote and arranged his first original score in 16 years for the drama movie “A Boy Named Po.” He worked on the soundtrack with another composer, Joseph Bauer. Bacharach and Daniel Tashian worked together on the EP “Blue Umbrella” in 2020. The EP was nominated for a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Burt Bacharach died on February 8, 2023 at the age of 94.
