Billie Joe Armstrong is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. The most well-known role of Billie Joe Armstrong is that of lead vocalist for the punk rock group Green Day. In addition, he has played with the bands Foxboro Hot Tubs, The Coverups, The Longshot, Pinhead Gunpowder, and The Network.
After releasing their first two albums, “39/Smooth” (1990) and “Kerplunk!” (1991), Green Day cemented their reputation in the early ’90s Southern California punk scene. However, the band faced criticism for potentially selling out when their 1994 album “Dookie” became available on a major label and sold over 8 million copies.
Armstrong disregarded the critiques of the band’s early supporters with every Green Day album, and the group went on to solidify its mainstream standing, which culminated in 2004’s “American Idiot,” a rock opera that unexpectedly became a global hit, a multi-platinum Grammy winner, and a Tony-winning Broadway musical.
