Former Indian President, Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday, 31st August at the age of 84. He had undergone a brain surgery recently at the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi.

His son Abhijit Mukherjee announced the doleful news of the death of the Bharat Ratna, Pranab Mukherjee.
He tweeted, “With a heavy heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri #pranabmukherjee has just passed away. Inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR hospital and prayers, duas and prarthanas from people throughout India. I thank all of you Folded Hands.”
His death was not only mourned by India, but Bangladesh as well. Bangladesh declared Wednesday, 2nd September as a day of mourning, to honor Pranab Mukherjee.
They had conferred the honor of ‘Bangladesh Mukti Juddho Sommanona’ to the Former President in 2013. His important contribution in the Bangladesh’s Liberation War of 1971, was highly valued.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hassina wrote a letter to the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. She said that Pranab Mukherjee was greatly revered and loved as he had been a close friend of Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hassina shared valuable memories of Pranav Mukherjee and the rapport she shared with him for a long time. She expressed her grief and condolences at the passing away of the beloved, “Poltu Da.” She said that a shining politician has been lost.
The national flag of The People’s Republic of Bangladesh will be flown half-mast in his honor. A gem has been lost.
