Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming game Avowed is high on our list of highly anticipated Xbox exclusives.
Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG set in Eora, the world of the Pillars of Eternity games. We don’t know much about the game yet, but the few visuals that have been revealed have led to comparisons to the Elder Scrolls franchise. Phil Spencer has stated that the games are “very different,” but regardless of what it is, the fact that Avowed is being developed by the same team that created The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas gives us hope that it will be something special.
Avowed does not yet have a release date, but we hope that 2022 will bring more information about this platform exclusive, especially since developer Obsidian stated in mid-2021, “we are looking forward to showing off what we have been working on soon.”
Avowed Release Date
Avowed’s release date is unknown, but given that we’ve seen no gameplay and very little cinematic work, it’s more than likely years away. That reality becomes even clearer when you consider that Obsidian is currently hard at work on Grounded as well as The Outer Worlds 2.
We do know it’s coming to the Xbox Series X and Windows 10, so if it skips the Xbox One, it’ll be past the two-year cross-gen window. This game could be released as early as late 2022. However, given that we are already in 2022, it is more likely to launch in 2023 to 2024.

Avowed Gameplay
While no official gameplay trailer was released, a sneak peek at the end of the reveal trailer revealed a glimpse of the combat, which resembles a first-person action-RPG experience similar to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Obsidian Entertainment previously worked on a hit Bethesda game called Fallout: New Vegas, which many consider being the best Fallout entry in the series. Given Obsidian’s experience with RPGs, we’re eager to see where the studio takes a game like this.
Obsidian posted job listings in 2019 that may give us an idea of what Avowed will be like. It’s unclear if these were for Avowed, Grounded, or even The Outer Worlds DLCs, but they mentioned “combat with an emphasis on an exceptional first-person melee experience” and “combat actions utilizing both first and third-person animations.” Day and night cycles were also mentioned, as well as branching dialogue.
I predict that Avowed will not only be released sooner than The Elder Scrolls 6, but it will also be a better Elder Scrolls game than anyone could have hoped for.

Avowed minimum and recommended requirements
We don’t know what kind of PC requirements this game will have, but given that it won’t be available for a few years, you should rush to upgrade your hardware or keep an eye out for some of the best gaming laptops in the coming years.
However, based on current game standards, we believe Avowed will have similar requirements to The Outer Worlds. An Intel Core i3-3225 or AMD Phenom II X6 1100T CPU, an Nvidia GTX 650 Ti or AMD HD 7850 GPU, and 4GB of RAM are required. Meanwhile, an Intel Core i7-7700K or Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 470 GPU, and 8GB of RAM are required.
We anticipate that two years from now when we have access to RTX 4000s (yes, this is a joke), the minimum requirements will likely increase, but not significantly, as Obsidian games are typically well-optimized.
Is Avowed coming to Xbox Game Pass?
Because Obsidian Entertainment is now owned by Microsoft, Avowed is a first-party title published by Xbox Game Studios. This means that Avowed will be available for free to all Xbox Game Pass subscribers when it launches.
